Concrete Construction News
SDS/2 has a building information modelling solution, SDS/2 Concrete, that enables multiple users to simultaneously build virtual concrete structures. The software's specialized tools allow for automated placement of reinforcing steel in the concrete. Users can automatically generate detailed bending and placing schedules, as well as placement drawings, from 3-D model information, saving time over traditional 2-D workflows.
GOMACO will have several of their curb and gutter machines on display at World of Concrete 2018, including the Commander IIIx, 3300, GT-3600 and GT-3200. GOMACO says that their curb and gutter machines are chosen more than any others due to their industry-leading technology, proprietary G+ control system, and versatility in their product line. G+ and its industry-leading technology is the control system for all of GOMACO's concrete paving equipment.
GSSI has added a new drill hole feature to the StructureScan Mini XT – the newest generation of GSSI's all-in-one concrete inspection GPR system. The drill hole feature is a 3D data processing detection algorithm. The algorithm evaluates a user-chosen cylindrical area that represents a potential or planned coring location. Scanning for all potential targets within the cylindrical area, the drill hole feature looks for targets that may interfere with a proposed coring location.
Leading cement and concrete organizations have unveiled a new online pavement design tool that offers features and benefits never before available to the pavement design community.PavementDesigner.org is free of charge and was created for city, county, and consultant engineers, academia, or anyone involved in design of roadway, industrial, and parking area pavements. PavementDesigner improves upon traditional pavement design software programs, and provides the following value-added features:
- No cost - The platform and is offered completely free of charge, eliminating the expense and burden of ordering software and updates, licenses, etc.
- Immediate access - The platform brings the industry's best pavement design programs together into a single website that allows professionals to design pavements immediately.
- Cloud storage/retrieval - Users have the option of creating a user ID and password to save their design work, as well as to retrieve projects using any digital device.
- Automatic updates and improvements - The online system is automatically updated when new content or details are added. Users will not have to download updated software or "patches."
Minnich Manufacturing will introduce the new Stinger electric flex shaft concrete vibrator — a lightweight, durable and versatile solution - at World of Concrete. The Stinger is a 15-amp (115-volt) universal motor that drives a full line of Minnich shafts and heads and comes standard with a quick disconnect that adapts to the vibrators of many manufacturers. The Stinger offers a more compatible speed range for today's placement challenges. The Minnich vibrator system design runs at a lower amp range and the durable frame extends vibrator life. The lightweight motor and frame-handle positions offer many ergonomic user features.
GOMACO Corporation announces the recent appointment of HMA Equipment Company of Canada as the authorized GOMACO distributor for the province of Ontario in Canada. They will provide sales and service for GOMACO's full line of concrete construction products. The appointment was made by Kent Godbersen, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, GOMACO Corporation. Travis Brockman (shown) is GOMACO's District Manager for the province.
Sensera Systems, a manufacturer of solar-powered job site monitoring and site security products, has integrated its SiteCloud software with Autodesk BIM 360. The integration saves time and improves accuracy of job site documentation by fully automating the collection and archival of as-built progress images and enabling direct comparison with design plans.
GOMACO University has released their 2018 schedule and is now accepting registrations for the new season of specialized courses covering GOMACO's full line of concrete paving equipment. Each week, from January through April, features courses taught by GOMACO instructors with a combined experience of over 100 years with GOMACO equipment. Toro's Tracked Mud Buggy — the MB TX 2500 — is an innovative solution for the concrete placement, site preparation and material handling equipment categories. With the addition of this new product, Toro now offers both a wheeled version and a tracked version to meet the specific needs of a variety of segments including underground utility, earthmoving, general construction and landscaping segments.
The Keeyask Generating Station, which is under construction in northern Manitoba, will provide 695 megawatts of capacity and produce an average of 4,400 gigawatt hours of electricity each year for use in Manitoba and for export. The project is located 725 kilometres north of Winnipeg on the Nelson River. Getting material and support to the site is difficult over the rough terrain, and due to the size of the project, the amount of equipment required at any one time is also a challenge.
Southern Coring & Cutting Services (SCCS) knows concrete work - after all, the Regina company has been in the concrete business for more than four decades. It has always had an expertise in the cutting, coring and demolition side of the industry, and has developed a long list of residential and commercial clients.
The new MX-20MT mixer/pump from Blastcrete Equipment Company gives contractors a high-output, easy-to-use unit for superb productivity on shotcrete and refractory work in a variety of applications, including steel mills, cement plants and petrochemical plants. The machine provides twice the output of the company's popular MX-10 mixer/pump yet has nearly the same compact footprint. It's mounted to a single-chassis trailer for convenience as well as fast and easy transportation, setup and cleaning.
Chicago Pneumatic Construction Equipment now offers a new concept in its vibration equipment lineup with the launch of electronic pokers. The quiet, safe and efficient Vektor 12K electronic pokers provide high centrifugal force, making them suitable for use across a wide variety of high-to-low slump concrete applications.
Cutting, coring or drilling into concrete on a project site is risky business. Hitting an electrical line, conduit or other buried feature within concrete is not only extremely dangerous, it can also be costly, leading to work delays, emergency repairs and a loss of production. Even when as-built drawings exist, they may not be accurate or detailed enough to pinpoint the location of hidden conduits, electrical lines, rebar and junction boxes.
Liebherr's newest crawler concrete pump the THS 110 D4f-K features a maximum concrete output of 133 yd³/h (102 m³/h) powered by a six-cylinder engine an is equipped with a powerful pump unit, known for its smooth operation and powerful suction. An open hydraulic circuit guarantees reduced system maintenance requirements. Additional structural details also contribute to optimum serviceability. High importance was afforded during the design phase to ensure that wear parts could be replaced quickly and easily. The smooth surfaces of the pump housing are easy to clean and the shape of the concrete hopper, devoid of edges and projections, minimizes the accumulation of concrete residue and soiling. An extensive standard scope of delivery for the crawler concrete pump includes for example, a 500-liter capacity water tank with water pump, as well as a lockable toolbox.
